Despite neighbouring Ethiopia, it is believed that coffee was not produced in Kenya until 1893 - introduced by French Holy Ghost Fathers from Reunion Island. About 70% of Kenya coffee is produced by small holders. The primary growing regions are those around Mt. Kenya (Nyeri, Murang'a, Kirinyaga, Embu & Meru), Nakuru, Machakos and Kiambu.
